OpenShootingDogINOLA, OKLA. — It’s been a long time since the Tulsa Bird Dog Association (formerly Tulsa Bird Dog Club) was featured here in The American Field.

The club held its first trial in October 1987 and Allen Vincent wrote the first report. That’s some pretty big shoes to fill, but here we are nearly 30 years later and the TBDA has come full circle. After nearly 20 years being absent from The American Field world, the club held its fall trial at the McFarlin-Ingersoll Ranch in Inola, Okla., under the auspices of the Oil Capital Field Trial Association and with the guidance of TBDA member and professional trainer Tom Woods of Adair, Okla.

The Open stakes counted as a KFTCA points trial, while both the open and amateur stakes awarded points in the NBHA. We had a great draw not only from Oklahoma but neighboring Missouri and Kansas as well. Thanks to all those handlers and clubs who came to support us. It made for a full weekend and a lot of fun with 45 entries for the weekend.

TBDA would like to thank its outstanding sponsors Purina and Gun Dog Supply for providing prizes to our winners and support for our volunteers.

The trial could not have happened of course without our judges Kevin Guess, Kyle Shirm, David Paine, and Tom Woods.

In a unique offering, the TBDA held its walking stakes on the same weekend and at the same location as the Oil Capital Field Trial Association’s horseback stakes, allowing for lots of social time between the clubs during lunch and at the banquet. We would like to thank Jon Humphrey, Mike Griffin, Bob Barker and the rest of the OCFTA for welcoming us back to the American Field world. And of course, without the support of landowner Win Ingersoll, we could not have hosted the trial at all. His dedication to the sport is always much appreciated.

We had a lot of fun and are excited to continue to participate and host walking stakes here in Oklahoma.
