Roy E. Marshall Memorial Gun Dog Championship

Eddie Boyd poses with Tucker, GSP male, the 2017 Roy E, Marshall Memorial Championship Top Dog.

Saturday morning dawned with low clouds spitting snow and sleet while a 20 mph wind backed them up. It wasn’t long before everyone was feeling sorry for the judges, Carl Brown and Elllison Gilliard,  as they came in to warm up after their brace and the judges went back out. The dogs didn’t care and, this being a championship, several great performances were turned in. Larry Moore’s bad weather dog, Hoss, had the high score of the day with 3 TBDA dogs making the 8 dog call back for Sunday morning’s Top Dog competition. That included Haley Caveny and her Vizsla, Outlaw, who were first time participants and got a lot of notice.

By the 14th brace and late afternoon it was anybody’s game with two teams being separated by one found bird. In the end the High Prairie took winning team and Eddie Boyd of High Prairie got the Gun Dog of the Year Sunday morning.  So another miss by TBDA teams but we certainly got close and with a little more focus who knows about next year.
Tulsa Bird Dog Association would like to thank our sponsor this this event, as well as most club events, Purina Pro Plan. Purina has been most kind to us this year, heavily sponsoring a large number of TBDA events. We would also like to thank our great judges Carl Brown and Ellison Gilliland, both of who serve the club faithfully.
