February 18, 2017 Gun Dog and Puppy Trial Results

Josh Gwartney with Kate

Terry Stunkard and Tuffy

RuSean Hardman with Sassy

What a great start to the season we had on Saturday. With excellent weather and a record-setting draw of 50 dogs, we had a great time and saw some stellar dog work. We often sell out or come close on our Gun Dog trial in the spring. People are excited coming out of the bird season and the weather is always great. But this weekend we not only sold out our Gun Dog trial but ran 17 puppies and 3 fun hunts as well. That is just beyond what we have ever seen when it comes to puppies. And as per usual, puppies are nearly equivalent to new members and new trialers. That was certainly the cane this weekend with a large number of first time trialers.

As always, we want to thank our trial sponsor, Purina, as well as our judges Ellison Gilliland, Carl Brown, Peggy Hardman, Nick Carson and all the others who volunteered their time to plant and band birds as well as help in other ways. Our trial chair Kelly Sample did a bang up job of keeping things running smoothly and he and his wife served up a heck of a big pot of chili for lunch.

Over in the Gun Dog field there was stiff competition and first place was taken by Tuffy, GSP female, handled by Terry Stunkard. Second place went to Sassy, setter female, handled by RuSean Hardman while third place was taken by Gunner, Brittany male, handled by Randy Billington. In the puppy field first place went to new TBDA member and first time trialer Josh Gwartney who was handling Kate, GSP female. Second place went to Estell, GSP female, handled by Keith Linsday and third went to Rebel, GSP male, handled by new club member Carl Downs. For a full listing of results, click here.
